Never Judge a Wine with only One Bottle :-)

Posted by: Paul, 03.30.2009

At our March 28th tasting I again learned how much there is to learn about Wine. Aulikki and I have now been doing this for six years but I was caught off guard on this one. We were tasting an Alexander Valley Vineyards 2006 Estate Merlot and it was not as was expected. It had been several years since we had tasted this Wine but it was not as we remembered. The Wine tasted of strong Oak with almost no finish. It did not taste bad it just did not taste good.

We poured this Wine to many people and everyone had the same opinion; well not long before closing several new tasters showed up and the Merlot bottle was empty. I hesitated to open another but I'm glad that I did, it was WONDERFULL!

Moral of the story; if it does not taste right it's not right, open another and give it a try. It does not happen often but you will eventually get a bad bottle of Wine.
