Finland; the seventh day

Posted by: Aulikki, 09.02.2008

Today we have planned to do all our shopping for souvenirs and gifts to take back home. We also wanted get a gift for Ritva, my sister-in-law, as her 60th birthday was coming up in few weeks.

We chose for Ritva the iittala 2008 annual bird, Cucunor. Of course we wanted to find something special for Tanya and Kathy, and chose Finnish design necklaces for them.

For lunch we stopped by Steak & Whisky House Galle, and we both had reindeer filet with sherry sauce, cranberries and roasted potatoes along with Bodegas Campo Viejo Rioja.

I have tried several days to find my friend Marja-Liisa, and today was my last chance since we were driving to Turku tomorrow. I knew the street she lives on but was not sure of the house, but Bingo ? we found her.

When we walked into her yard she came out screaming and hopping. We visited for a while; she had gotten married since we met last time, her husband Harri seemed like a very good fellow. We had a short visit as we were on the way to pick up Keijo and Ritva for dinner.

For dinner we chose Restaurant La Braza again. For appetizer we had grilled scallops and shrimp, and Grav lax. For main course we had grilled liver with creamed potatoes, bacon, onion and sour cream and grilled chicken with goat cheese, spinach and currant sauce. For wine we chose Bonny Doon Sangiovese.

After dinner we drove back to Keijo's house, Ritva opened her gift and went over some old family photos and finally it was time hug for goodbye. What a wonderful visit we have had!
